Announcement of new teaching and event formats for the summer semester 2026 in the LL&M Department

The Department Life, Light & Matter (LL&M) at the University of Rostock is expanding its teaching and exchange offerings in the summer semester 2026 with new formats at the interface of research, methodology, and application.

At the center is the new lecture course  Multiscale Materials Characterisation, which is jointly designed by several members of the department. The course teaches fundamental methods for characterizing materials across different length scales, presents selected instruments from the research building as well as from the LL&M environment, and strengthens interdisciplinary education in the master’s programs in physics, mechanical engineering, and biomedical engineering.

The lecture takes place weekly from April 13, 2026 to July 17, 2026, on Mondays from 13:00 to 15:00 in SRII at the Institute of Physics.

In addition, a FLINTA*-lecture series is being offered, providing insights into industrial perspectives on materials science topics. In three evening lectures, external female speakers from industry and professional associations will report on application areas, career paths, and current challenges.

With these new formats, the LL&M Department is specifically strengthening the connection between university research and practice.
