Linking research and the public: science communication in the CRC LiMatI

Science communication serves to convey scientific findings to the public and promotes understanding of current research topics. The aim is to make complex concepts understandable for non-specialists and to arouse interest in scientific work.

As part of the CRC's science communication, the researchers actively contribute to established events at the institute, such as the Rostock Children's University, the Rostock Physics Day, the Day of Light, the Saturday University and the Long Night of Science. Here they share their research on quantum physics and light-matter interactions to promote public understanding of these topics.

A central element is the Photonlab, which is integrated into the teaching and learning laboratory PhySch Physics and School at the Institute of Physics.
Here, pupils experiment with fundamental concepts of physics and current LiMatI research topics, such as quantum mechanics and quasiparticle formation. Student teachers are involved in the development of experiments and teaching materials in order to develop their didactic skills.
